We’re thrilled to share that MGM Construction has officially secured a place on the NEUPC Major Conservation Works and Maintenance Services Framework. This appointment marks an exciting step forward, opening doors for us to deliver top-tier heritage & conservation projects for universities and higher education institutions across the North-East, Yorkshire & Humber, East Midlands, and West Midlands.

Following a competitive tender process, MGM Construction has been awarded Lot 1 (Major Conservation Works) and Lot 2 (Cyclical Maintenance and Large-Scale Repairs). The framework emphasises our expertise in the heritage & conservation sector & is a strong endorsement of our capabilities from NEUPC.

Expertise That Preserves History and Enhances Functionality

The NEUPC framework is all about helping universities procure services efficiently and compliantly, especially for buildings of historical or architectural significance. MGM Construction brings a unique blend of technical expertise, craftsmanship, and a genuine respect for heritage, ensuring that every project balances preservation with practicality.

A shining example is our work on the Sutherland Building at Northumbria University in Newcastle upon Tyne. This Grade II-listed 19th-century building, originally home to the University of Durham Medical School, underwent extensive external remedial works. Partnering with CBRE Global Workplace Solutions (GWS), we preserved its architectural heritage while upgrading its functionality to meet modern educational needs.

We’re also proud to be continuing our work at Auckland Castle in County Durham, part of The Auckland Project. As Main Contractor on a series of restoration and landscaping schemes, this marks our third project at the site in recent years. It reflects our ongoing commitment to safeguarding historically significant buildings and landscapes while ensuring they remain fit for modern use.

These projects exemplify MGM Construction’s wider capability: preserving heritage assets while delivering practical, sustainable solutions for modern environments.

Supporting NEUPC Members Across the Region

Through this framework, MGM Construction will continue to support NEUPC members by:

  • Delivering high-quality workmanship through skilled and dedicated tradespeople
  • Preserving heritage assets while enhancing their practical use
  • Meeting the sustainability and social value objectives of the higher education sector

We’re excited to collaborate with NEUPC members, helping to maintain and enhance the built environment of universities and other significant estates across the region.

This framework may be centred on universities, but our work doesn’t stop at campus gates. From restoring heritage landmarks in County Durham to conserving cultural spaces that shape communities, MGM Construction has built a reputation for breathing new life into buildings that matter. Every project is about more than bricks and mortar, it’s about protecting character, honouring history, and making spaces fit for the future. That’s why being appointed to the NEUPC Major Conservation Works and Maintenance Services Framework is such an achievement. It’s recognition not only of what we build, but of the care, skill, and pride we bring to every job across the North East and beyond.
