Across the UK, the demand for high-quality, affordable, and sustainable housing continues to grow. Yet, in many towns and cities, land availability remains one of the biggest barriers to delivering the homes communities need. At the same time, thousands of underused garage units and neglected plots sit empty, contributing little to local areas.
Turning these forgotten spaces into sustainable homes offers a practical and innovative solution. This is the vision behind garage-to-home regeneration—a model that not only addresses housing shortages but also revitalises neighbourhoods in a way that is cost-effective, eco-friendly, and community-focused.
MGM Construction and HUSK: Scaling a Smarter Approach to Housing
To help bring this vision to life, MGM Construction has become HUSK’s first licensed delivery partner, marking a significant step forward in scaling garage-to-home regeneration nationwide.
The partnership builds on the success of earlier collaborations, including the award-winning Amble scheme in Northumberland. There, 4 garage block sites have been transformed into 14 eco-friendly bungalows, showing how thoughtful regeneration can provide much-needed housing while breathing new life into the local community.
Unlocking Potential in Forgotten Spaces
At the centre of this approach is HUSK’s patented build system, which makes it possible to convert small, overlooked garage plots into modern, sustainable homes. For local authorities and housing providers, this creates opportunities to deliver high-quality housing without the challenges of sourcing large-scale land or disrupting established neighbourhoods.
One of the key factors in developing the 1- and 2-bed HUSK units is that they also give local authorities and housing providers the ability to free up existing, larger homes that may currently be under-occupied, often by a single resident. By offering well-designed smaller homes, housing providers can make better use of their stock while meeting a growing need for affordable, right-sized housing.
Now, as HUSK’s licensed delivery partner, MGM Construction will bring this model to communities across the UK. With extensive expertise in construction, refurbishment, and regeneration projects, MGM is ideally positioned to ensure every new home meets modern sustainability standards while respecting the character of its surroundings.
Regeneration That Puts Communities First
What makes this model so impactful is that it goes beyond just building houses. It’s about creating places where people can live, thrive, and feel part of a stronger community. By turning forgotten spaces into safe, sustainable, and attractive homes, MGM and HUSK are driving regeneration and placemaking at a local level.
With new opportunities already being explored in several regions, the partnership is expected to unlock the delivery of hundreds of homes, transforming disused land into thriving residential spaces where people genuinely want to live.
At MGM Construction, we are proud to play a leading role in shaping this new approach to housing delivery, ensuring every project is built with sustainability, quality, and community at its core. We are excited to continue our journey with HUSK, bringing forward further projects that will provide much-needed affordable homes and make a lasting contribution to communities across the UK.
