Meet the Team
It’s an old saying but still rings true today: people buy from people.
In the construction industry, businesses with a reputation for sharp practices do not tend to last long, while those with integrity stand the test of time. Clients are often relying on construction
contractors for safety-critical work that needs to be delivered on time and on budget. In short, they need reliability and in a construction company that stems from the leadership team.
MGM’s management team has a wealth of complementary experience which gives clients confidence that it is a North East construction contractor to be trusted. Here’s a bit more information on three of its key personnel.
Phil Burridge, Managing Director
Phil started his career in construction as a time served apprentice more than 40 years ago, giving him a deep understanding of the industry. Phil recognised that MGM Construction had the potential to become a trusted name in new market segments, building on its reputation for restoration and heritage projects.
With investment and support from Northern Bear PLC, Phil transformed MGM to deliver higher value and more complex projects, without compromising MGM’s high standards and values.
“MGM has a long history of delivering preservation, restoration and heritage projects,” he says. “By making some high-quality additions to the already capable and experienced team, we were able to expand into different areas of construction.”
Ryan Gardiner, Director
Ryan joined MGM in 2020 as Project Manager, with a mandate to grow the commercial division of the business. Ryan’s success led to him being awarded a directorship in 2022.
Since this appointment, Ryan has continued to help MGM diversify into other market segments such as healthcare and education, as well as growing its framework agreements with local authorities and housing associations.
“MGM was already an established business, with a great reputation for the work that they have done,” says Ryan. “However, we have diversified more recently, allowing us to take the business into
several new workstreams.”
Ryan is also a keen golfer and gives his time as a director and committee member of his local golf club.
Chris Evans, Commercial Manager
MGM initially hired Chris as a freelance consultant. The team was impressed by his ethos and attention to detail, so offered him a permanent position. He joined as Commercial Manager in summer 2022. Chris has extensive experience in the construction sector, having worked domestically and abroad on projects of up to £20 million contract value.
“MGM is an established North East construction contractor with a fantastic reputation for delivering exceptional quality projects,” says Chris. “The heart of this success is MGM’s ability to build positive working relationships with its clients and supply chain. “I’ve worked in construction for over 15 years in the UK the Middle East. With MGM, it’s inspiring to work with a team that’s enthusiastic about moving towards their collective goals. There is a focus on staff development here as part of the business growth strategy – developing people is integral to MGM’s values.”
